PALACE CASINO RESORT LARGE-SCALE EXPANSION UNDERWAY

Palace Casino Resort’s large-scale expansion and renovation is well underway. The resort’s 110,000-square-foot renovation project, of which 64,000 square feet is an expansion of its facilities and amenities, is the largest casino expansion on the Mississippi Gulf Coast since Hurricane Katrina.

Upon completion of the new construction, the property will include 38,000 square feet of gaming space with more than 1,000 slot machines and 26 new table games including a high limit salon. Rhythmic architectural elements mixing metals, woods, stone and glass with a contemporary color palette of grays, golden yellows, rich reds and vibrant blues will form a dramatic and elegant backdrop for the new gaming area to create a sophisticated, lively atmosphere. A strong focus is being placed on the improvement of air quality throughout the casino. Non-smoking areas will be available to guests.

The expansion and renovation project includes a new 300-seat buffet. The new Palace Buffet will feature live cooking stations offering freshly prepared cuisine. Palace Café & Bakery will offer a variety of freshly baked goods and coffees. A new 24-hour grill will service a vast selection of burgers, shakes and more. And, a new upscale lounge/sports bar will include a stage for live entertainment. The Mississippi Gulf Coast’s premier fine dining restaurant, Mignon’s Steaks and Seafood, will remain; and Mignon’s Lounge, which was popular before the storm, will return.

Keith Crosby, general manager of the Palace Casino Resort, says the Cuningham Group’s design will create a seamless connection between the architecture, appearance and function of the existing spaces and the new building, to transform Palace Casino Resort into a new and modern resort. The interior of the ‘new resort experience’ will begin at the two-story atrium area, which will serve as the hotel lobby and access to the gaming floor and meeting rooms. In addition, the atrium will house a new front desk, concierge area, VIP check-in, a gift shop, spa and fitness center, business center and motor coach lounge.

Crosby says, “We are bringing back many of the amenities we lost, to again provide our guests the complete package. We will also maintain many of our current, popular amenities, like our signature golf course, The Preserve Golf Club; our first-class marina; and our award-winning fine dining restaurant, Mignon’s Steaks and Seafood.”

Cuningham Group, an award-winning international design firm with multiple offices including Biloxi, Las Vegas and Minneapolis, is leading the architecture and interior design work of the expansion. The firm, which designed many of the gaming, nightclub and restaurant environments within the pre-Katrina casino, has over 40 years of experience and has consistently been recognized as a leader in the resort gaming market.

The estimated date of completion for the expansion is Summer 2011.
